Year: 1987
Place: Darcelle XV Showplace
Woman and Man of the Year
The final year of Foxy Lady and Mr. Hunky was 1986. What superseded only lasted one year. It did not have a logo or any formal signina but what happened on May 31st at the Darcelle XV Showplace in 1987 was a celebration of the 14 years of Mr. Hunky and the 13 years of Foxy Lady pageants/competitions. Per the article above in the City Week newspaper this awards ceremony would be joint and would honor those “not [often] received recognition they deserve [recognized in our community for their service].”
Per Susie Shepherd, “They were beginning to think Foxy Lady and Mr. Hunky were too sexist, so were trying to come up with titles that wouldn’t offend anyone. (I never knew who complained—that was just the way it was back then!) they tried to transition from Foxy Lady & Mr. Hunky to Man & Woman of the year, and I think that only lasted a year—maybe two.” Via email 3/4/2025.
Susie Shepherd was awarded “Woman of the Year” and Tom Norton and Keeston Lowrey and Tom were named jointly “Men of the Year”.
