This newsletter was an offshoot of A Woman’s Place bookstore. A Woman’s Place Newspaper.
Cited on Feb 20-26 1987 City Week newspaper under Community Resources ‘Feminist Monthly Publication”
Considered itself as a feminist newspaper, but it was ran mostly by women who identified as lesbians.
Per GLPAN website: Rag Times, according to Judith Barrington, who was involved with the publication, began as a monthly newsletter of A Woman’s Place, a Portland feminist bookstore. It eventually graduated from a newsletter to an independent newspaper. She explains that it “continued to have a connection to the bookstore in that it was laid out and assembled on a large table on the store” when it was located on SE Ankeny Street.
Approximate dates that Rag Times was published were between 1980 to mid-1982. Judith says that it identified as feminist rather than specifically lesbian. However, it had a lot of lesbian content. The collective that ran it was almost entirely lesbian.
