Per Sister Paula Nielsen in her book The Trans-Evangelist, page 222, “became a writer for | the Northwest Fountain, a local gay newspaper that was owned and published by Dave Porter. When he visited the church office, Dave discovered my article The Transsexual plight that had been printed in pamphlet form. I became Religion Editor for the paper, keeping folk apprised of religious activities in the community.’| also wrote community news articles. Over the next several years, I wrote for many other alternative lifestyle publications. Eventually, I had a column of my own, Thoughts From Paula. Page 234: In January 1981 the Northwest Fountain published an article entitled Lavender Shingle Goes Up. Featured was a photo of Janet Metcalf. This was Portland’s first law firm to openly, advertise Serving The Gay Community.”
