An article was published in the Cascade Voice, August 1982 issue, page 9, GAY PRIDE REPORT, it started out, “The 1982 Lesbian and Gay Pride march and rally was a watershed in Portland’s gay politics.  This one article gives a lot of background on gay pride and those who formed in Portland.”

Marching to a theme of “Unity Through Diversity,” more than 2,000 men and women took to the streets of downtown Portland, followed by a gathering at Waterfront Park. According to The Oregonian, the messages on the signs carried in that march echoed the theme: “Put the right wing back in the closet”; “End gay bashing”; and “Stop the raids on undocumented workers.” Photo is from article.
