LAURELHURST PARK

Per website: https://www.portland.gov/parks/laurelhurst-park In 1909, the land that is now Laurelhurst Park was purchased from the estate of William S. Ladd, who developed Ladd's Addition and twice was mayor of Portland. Ladd named his 486-acre parcel Hazel Fern Farm, after the name of one of the streets in the area. Here Ladd developed one of the most prestigious stock farms in the West.

By October, more gay men are being attacked in downtown Portland near the bars. The police comment that it’s impossible to know exactly how many attacks have taken place because there’s no sexual orientation box on police reports for people to check. Two gay men form Safe Streets Alliance after one is harassed. The alliance provides information on self-defense, encourages gays to file police reports, and offers support to those who have been assaulted.”
