GLASSBAR ISLAND
aka Bring Beach
Some data obtained on https://groups.google.com/g/rec.nude/c/7H2_xgu0kxc 5/9/2022:
Now for the dos and don’ts, while we all hate rules out here, there are a few taboos.
* Gentlemen, respect our ladies. Anyone that acts improperly towards our women will be expelled in a flash so just don’t do it. * This is a gay friendly and straight friendly environment. If you have any problems with this STAY AWAY! We do not and will not tolerate any “hostile” actions by ANYONE. We will descend on you like the wrath of God so just stay away. * Also we enforce the rule that you tote out what you bring in. In other words, don’t leave your trash when you depart.
Since the property belongs to the OPRD of the State of Oregon, there are a few of their rules to follow: * No camping on the island and surrounding properties. * No fires except at the firepit by the tables at the front crossing and at the plum tree on the island. During extremely dry weather - no fires anywhere. * No cutting of live trees, shrubs or wildflowers on the island and adjacent properties.
What is interesting is what it DOESN'T SAY. It doesn't say NO SEX.
Well, you might say, that should be obvious. But the problem with that is before the state took it over, this beach when it was known as "Bring Beach" was full of people having outdoor sex. Especially for gays it was THE place to go in the area to get a little "outdoor action."
So, why not a quick clarification given the beach's history? Something like "obviously sexual behavior will not be tolerated anywhere on the beach?
Could it be because they hope even with the state now owning the property to maintain not only the character of the area as being a nude beach, but also to maintain it's sexual nature as well?
By the way, the people of the area hopes that this will become Oregon's third official nude beach. Rooster Rock which is one of the two official nude beaches in the Portland Oregon Area continues to have problems with gays using it. Things at Sauvie Island are much better though unfortunately like at most designated nude beaches in America (although such places are rare and getting rarer) problems are still all to frequent.
Given the history of the property the Glassbar Nude Beach volunteers need to make it Absolutely Clear that sexual activity will not be tolerated there. Otherwise they will lose use of this property as a Nude Beach.
Also, per https://nudehiker.wordpress.com/2008/05/01/glassbar-island-nude-beach-volunteers/ Glassbar Island has a long history of clothing-optional use . . . formerly under the name of Bring Beach, so named because it was behind the Bring Recycling facility. Over the years, Bring Beach had a storied past and . . . some problems. Both AANR-NW and ORCOBA got involved in trying to encourage user groups, mainly through SOLV-sponsored cleanups.
Now that the Bring Recycling Center has moved a push to bring back the historical and proper name for the island . . . and to formalize preservation matters to keep this beach clean, safe, non-discriminatory and clothing-optional, has led to a new AANR-sanctioned group being formed . . . the Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers, a 100% AANR club promoting public lands nudism.
The Glassbar Island Nude Beach Volunteers have formed a new, moderated Yahoo Users Group, glassbarisland, as an adjunct the the old Bring Beach group sponsored by ORCOBA. They have also created a very well-done website with history, directions and great photos of the Glassbar Island environs.
Glassbar Island is located in Eugene, Oregon within easy distance of the city. Nudist accommodations are available for rooms or camping at the Willamettan’s Family Nudist Resort in nearby Springfield, and the ever-popular and clothing-optional friendly Terwilliger Hot Springs east of Eugene in the foothills of the Oregon Cascades.
Per the Just Out magazine November 2012 issue on page 39 BEACHES “Glassbar Island aka Bring Beach in the Eugene/Springfield area. Volunteers are working with the State Parks to establish a official clothing optional beach in this area along a fork of the Willamette River.”
