Fifty years ago the "Famed 1964 Erv Lind Florists women’s softball team won the World Championship. To quote Carl Cluff, of the Journal Sports Writer. The City of Roses was represented by these very talented, womens softball team, championship softball team, a world class girls softball team.
I feel sad that nothing is being done to remember and honor these athletes as they were so instrumental in the start of women’s sports. The florists took on all comers from every corner of the United States, Canada, Japan, the South Pacific and Formosa.
They did not have the endorsements that athletes today have. Traveling by car, a very tight food budget, etc.
They won over 1,100 games on the world's softball diamonds, an all-time winning record of nearly .775 per cent. The Florists were always winners, of city, metropolitan league, regional and world championships. In 29 years they never lost a league, state or regional title and they twice topped the world.
Someone needs to look into the archives of this era and the Florists. They deserve to be remembered and honored for what they accomplished personally, as a team, and their representatives of Portland, Oregon.

Portland honored Lind with a resolution of thanks in 1963 and named the stadium at Normandale Park after him in 1965.
