Daughters of Bilitis

There appears to have been a Portland Chapter of Daughters of Bilitis per a listing in the International List of Gay Publications and Organizations May 17, 1971-June 30, 1971.

Background on the Daughters of Bilitis. Daughters of Bilitis - WikipediaThe Daughters of Bilitis (/bɪˈliːtɪs/), also called the DOB or the Daughters, was the first lesbian civil and political rights organization in the United States.[1] The organization, formed in San Francisco in 1955, was conceived as a social alternative to lesbian bars, which were subject to raids and police harassment. As the DOB gained members, their focus shifted to providing support to women who were afraid to come out. The DOB educated them about their rights and about gay history.

After reviewing several issues of The Ladder a the Daughters of Bilitis publication no Portland chapter is mentioned. 1971-1972_Vol16_No03-04_Dec_Jan.pdf (berkeley.edu)

This is by no means everything on this subject, we will continue to research and update.
