The City Week proclaimed, “The Weekly Newspaper of Oregon’s Gay and Lesbian Citizens”

The Wednesday, January 13, 1986, issue of the Oregon Gay News stated “The beginning of each new year is time for evaluation and change. A NEW NAME – To better define our mission…. City Week become Oregon Gay Times. City Week will continue to be used for a new calendar and events section.

Per Pat Young’s Sept 11, 2000 draft for GLAPNtimeline   February 1988 the Portland-based gay newspaper, City Week, changes its name to Oregon Gay News to reflect a growing statewide circulation. A year later, the paper changes its name again to The Portland Monitor after realizing that most of the readers really are in Portland. The publisher drops the word “gay” from the title because some readers say they are not comfortable with the term and others say it excludes lesbians. The paper (first published in October 1985) folds in May 1989.
