The Fountain, March 1972, page 7 BRMC 2ND ANNIVERSARY “A blustery, icy weekend was provided by nature as the City of Roses and the Inland Empire hosted the 2nd Anniversary of the Border Riders Motorcycle Club. Members of the organization traveled from Vancouver, Seattle as well as the Portland area. Members gé ou motorcycle Silos from San Francisco and the Bay Area and Los Angeles were special ousts of the R. Special events of the weekend began with a buffet at the Other Inn given by Mama Bernice, the Guardian Angel of the bikers. Following the buffet the crowd traveled to Dema’s Tavern to see a special show, Hostess Darcelle provided an evening of camp and frivolity for the leather crowd which featured herself along with Tina Sandell, Lovitt Wilder, Joanie, Victoria Schilling, a surprise attack by the Imperial Grand Czarina Vanessa and a rare entertainment performance by the Empress Tracey XIV. The special treat of the evening came with an unannounced visit by Phyllis Diller as impersonated by the international star Mr. J. J. Van Dyke. Billed as the male Phyllis Diller, Mr. Van Dyke has appeared all over the continent and is favorite headliner at San Francisco Finnochio’s. As a member of the leather set, Mr. VanDyke is a favorite to them and the crowd’s reaction was riotous to his topical humor.

Saturday night brought the highlight of the BMRC celebration with a private cocktail party at the Riptide. Guess practically swam in champagne and cold Duck with a generous supply of h’or dourves.  Members were treated to a show featuring an international cast. The basis of the show was comedy with a generous smattering of patriotism. Darcelle and Roxi did their crowd-pleaser ‘God Bless America’ with leather and whips.”

[article continued] and Morgana did a medley of Canadian songs dressed in a British flag and draped with a rope of Canadian banners. Big Frosty, did a repeat of his popular leather queen bit in “I Gotta Be Me.”  Convention headquarters were at the Majestic Hotel where most of the out-of-towners were registered.” See large article on page 7 – March 1972 The Fountain
